Welcome to Sheldon’s Tomato Blog

I had been growing tomatoes for years with lack luster results. That is, until the summer of 2008. I’d been reading and experimenting with Terra Preta methods and I finally seemed to hit on just the right combination of soil, nutrients and water. My harvest that year was beyond belief in size and tastiness. I got rave reviews from friends and business colleagues alike.

Last year I tried to repeat my results. What a disaster! Those of you who live in Michigan will remember that the summer of 2009 may have been the worst tomato-growing season ever. It rained and rained and was too cool. My tomato plants were flooded and got mold. I planted four times the number of plants that year and got one tenth the harvest as the year before.

I’m back this year with a whole new strategy! I’ve got 13 tomatoes set already and it’s only the 1st of June! I’ve been using a new fertilizing method and I have a new moisture control system this year too.

Hope you stay tuned for more about the discoveries I make this year about how to grow a better tomato!

All the Best!

Sheldon

Tomato Garden 2010 – The Start

I show the tomatoes planted so far, how I’m working with the heavy rains this year in Michigan and avoiding the flooding damage that occurred last season. We had 3.5 inches of rain in a few hours.

I also show my secret brew of compost tea.
